Athletics at Blessed Sacrament Catholic School

At Blessed Sacrament Catholic School, “Sports are a school of loyalty, courage, endurance, resoluteness, universal brotherhood- all natural virtues, but which provide the supernatural virtues with a solid foundation, and prepare us to bear the burden of the most serious responsibilities without weakness” Pope Pius XII. For Catholics, sports are not just a way to have fun: they’re a way to give glory to God through the development of healthy bodies and virtuous souls, preparing us as well for greater things.

Whether on the field, court, or in the classroom, students learn how to exist in a space where they are responsible for more than just themselves.

    • Mindful of our mission as a Catholic school, Blessed Sacrament athletes help fulfull the mission of Jesus Christ and prepare and empower children to lead, love, and serve God, the Church, and the world.
    • Mindful of our purpose as a college preparatory school, student-athletes maintain a strong academic report card.
    • We are first and foremost a Catholic school whose primary mission is faith formation. Athletics is an important dimension of our school and culture, but they do not supersede our faith or academics.

The following sports are available to students meeting the eligibility requirements. Blessed Sacrament Catholic School participates in the local SPAL Athletic League, a prominent league among Savannah Catholic and private schools.

Parental Involvement

Our program is entirely supported by volunteers. Volunteers make our vibrant sports program possible. Volunteers are the glue that binds hundreds of young athletes and dozens of coaches to create a memorable experience for our children each season. We can’t offer such great opportunities without you.

To ensure we are able to continue to offer more than 11 sports and nearly 40 teams, we ask all our athletes’ parents to volunteer each season.

Coaches

Coaches serve on a voluntary basis and Blessed Sacrament Catholic School appreciates the time, talent, and effort devoted to this act of stewardship.  The coaching methods center on working together as vital members of a team, building a positive self-image, learning the specific athletic skills involved in the sport, and having a good time. No one may participate in coaching without first being approved by the administration and having met Diocesan requirements (VIRTUS training).

Athletic Fees

To maintain the quality of our sports programs at Blessed Sacrament Catholic School, modest athletic fees are charged for all sports, aligning with the financial policies of private schools in Savannah. To help offset the cost of our sports program, an athletic fee will be charged for all sports.  Fees are billed and scheduled for automatic payment through FACTS upon receipt of the roster from the coach of each sport.  These fees are non-refundable should the student either decide not to play the sport or the student is removed from the team during the season.
